Meet Kenny
Kenny was the most genuine person anyone could know. He hired me (Jim) in 1989 at LaGondola in Crystal, MN. The name later changed to Sweet Taste of Italy when I bought the restaurant. Over the next 20 years, Kenny would always come by to check on me. He was as proud as a father until May 10, 2019, when he lost his battle with cancer. At that time, we were building a food truck with a different name. That day, our truck was renamed to honor Kenny and his family.
OUR ORIGINAL KITCHEN, SWEET TASTE OF ITALY
Ilda (Kenny's Wife), Jim (Owner) and Kenny

At Sweet Taste of Italy, we’re more than just a restaurant — we’re a family. Since opening our Brooklyn Park location in 2001, we’ve been proudly serving up hearty, homemade Italian dishes made with love and tradition. What started as a dream rooted in a small-town kitchen has grown into a local favorite, known for our warm hospitality, generous portions, and of course — our famous sweet garlic bread (we’ve served over 6.5 million loaves and counting!).
Our story goes all the way back to the 1980s, when our founder, Jim Stone, began working in the very building that now houses Sweet Taste of Italy. After years of learning the ropes and perfecting recipes, Jim took a leap and made the place his own. The result? A welcoming spot where community, comfort, and incredible food come together.
Whether you're joining us for a family dinner, grabbing takeout after a long day, or spotting our food truck, Kenny’s Meatball Wagon, around town — we’re here to bring a little joy (and a lot of garlic bread) to your day. From our kitchen to your table, thanks for being part of our story.
